FIRMO DECLARACIÓN DE APOYO AL PAPA FRENTE AL ATAQUE DEL PARLAMENTO DE BÉLGICA

Dear Ambassador

During Pope Benedict XVI recent trip to Africa, traveling to Cameroon, he declared to media journalists that -it is not possible to solve the problem of AIDS with the distribution of condoms. To the contrary, the risk is that the problem could extend-. AIDS, according to Benedict XVI, could be defeated with sexuality humanization and new conduct ways.

As you know, the Belgian Parliament has approved for great majority a resolution in which asks Government to condemn the Pope unacceptable declarations against the use of condoms in fighting against AIDS and to present an official protest to the Vatican.

I wonder if a country like Belgium needs publicity with the international community using this kind of declarations, without analyzing seriously the Pope declarations and just looking to an out of context fraction of the interview.

In front of this intolerant position of Belgian Parliament, I sign this Declaration of Support to the Holy Father Benedict XVI and to the labor is doing the Belgian Catholic Church in Africa, subscribing the following:

1. I repulse the Belgian Parliament decision trying to restrain the expression liberty of Benedict XVI to express his opinion on moral themes, in accordance with Mastership and experience of the Catholic Church.

2. I demand that the Belgian Government maintain the labor Belgian Catholic Church is doing in Africa against AIDS spread, and in the protection of the people suffering this disease.

3. I fully share Benedict XVI preoccupation to find a real solution of the severe AIDS problem.
